This year France welcomes the Rugby World Cup 2023™ with TUDOR as the Official Timekeeper for the tournament. Teams from around the world come together to compete and celebrate the camaraderie, courage and discipline that lie at the heart of this legendary sport. TUDOR has always striven to create watches with a daring spirit and is proud to support a tournament which embodies this ideal.
The Rugby World Cup 2023™ is the tenth edition of the tournament, which is held every four years. It is the third largest sporting event in the world, drawing together fans from every walk of life. 2023 marks 200 years since the sport was first invented by William Webb Ellis, a school pupil in the small town of Rugby, England. From this humble beginning, rugby has gone on to become the ultimate test of teamwork, resolve, strength and speed. Each player will be tested to their limits, but it is the strategy of the team that will win the day.
As a long-term supporter of rugby, TUDOR is deeply invested in the sport. The brand first joined forces with World Rugby™ in 2017 as part of its #BorntoDare campaign. Since then, TUDOR has been involved with the men’s and women’s Rugby World Cup™ and World Cup Sevens, as well as providing a platform for the next generation of players in the annual U20 World Cups. TUDOR celebrates rugby legends in partnership with the World Rugby™ Awards and Rugby Hall of Fame, recognising the teams, players, officials and others who have contributed most to the sport.
As well as acting as Official Timekeeper for the whole tournament, TUDOR fulfils the same role for the All Blacks as a team. Famous for the awe-inspiring Māori war dance that they perform before every Test match this team, captained by TUDOR ambassador Beauden Barrett, is one of the most successful of all time. Representing New Zealand, they are three-time World Champions, with a winning Test record of over 77%. This year, the All Blacks is hoping to win a fourth Rugby World Cup™ victory, facing off against stiff competition from the French hosts.
In 2019 TUDOR produced an all-black version of the Black Bay Chrono to celebrate this partnership. Limited to one unit for each player ever to have been a part of the team, another watch is made every time a new player is selected. The stainless steel case is finished in matte black PVC, with a black dial and bezel. The result is sporty and bold, with TUDOR’s signature precision-tested engineering; a fitting tribute to the All Blacks.
With so many exceptional teams taking the field, the Rugby World Cup 2023™ is already an event to remember. The ideals of the sport are on full display, reflecting the same spirit which has driven TUDOR to ever greater watchmaking accomplishment. It remains to be seen whether the All Blacks will prevail, or whether another team will take the podium to become the new World Champions. Either way, TUDOR will be there for every gripping moment.
