Three Variations on a Classic TUDOR Black Bay GMT

19 June 24

The TUDOR Black Bay GMT offers a classic complication in three variations. Allowing the wearer to track up to three time zones at once, each of these models combine precise design with technical prowess.

The GMT complication has proven its popularity across generations, and for good reason. It is elegant and highly practical, allowing the wearer to track local time alongside two other time zones. The usefulness of this complication is clear for the frequent traveller, or for anyone who needs to keep in step with business partners, friends and family around the globe. The TUDOR Black Bay GMT combines this functionality with the tool watch appeal of the Black Bay. This classic timepiece is offered in three variations to suit any taste.

Sporting a blue and burgundy bezel, a black dial and a stainless steel case, the first version of the TUDOR Black Bay GMT was launched in 2018, and proved immediately popular. In 2022, TUDOR launched a variation in steel and gold, with a black and brown bezel and a black dial. Warm and traditional, this version evokes the romance and adventure of the 1970s, when air travel was just becoming widely available. Last but not least, at Watches and Wonders 2023 TUDOR introduced a Black Bay GMT, again in stainless steel with a blue and burgundy bezel, only this time featuring a white opaline dial. A matte white-grey finish is applied to the dial via a galvanic process to give it a silvery appearance. The marker surrounds are darkened to create a highly legible dial which walks the line between vintage inspiration and modern aesthetics.

The GMT functionality is powered by the in-house Manufacture Calibre MT5652 (COSC). Designed specifically for the TUDOR Black Bay GMT, this movement features a date wheel, a 24-hour hand and a 12-hour hand, allowing the watch to display three time zones in combination with the 24-hour rotating bezel. The bezel rotates through 48 positions and is marked with a 24-hour scale, with the two colours indicating day and night. The date is aligned with the local hand, making it easy to keep track of the date when your local time changes past midnight. This complication is a classic for a reason, displaying a large amount of information clearly and cleanly.

At 41mm in diameter, with a strong luminescent coating on the hour markers and hands, the TUDOR Black Bay GMT is highly legible in all conditions. Worn on the stainless steel bracelet, steel and gold for the 2022 model, it has great presence on the wrist. The steel and gold model is also offered on a brown leather strap, which provides a rugged alternative. All three models are also presented on a jacquard fabric strap, hand-woven especially for TUDOR, with either a beige or a red stripe down the centre. All options provide exceptional comfort and security, allowing the wearer to select whichever best suits their personal style.

The TUDOR Black Bay GMT brings a classic complication into the Black Bay collection. Staying true to both the high-flying history of the GMT function and TUDOR's diving heritage, this is a marriage of the sea with the sky and the past with the future. Combining modern technology with vintage aesthetics, the TUDOR Black Bay GMT has something to offer any watch enthusiast who wishes to keep track of time around the globe. Whether you're off on an aeronautical adventure or keeping time with international business contacts, the TUDOR Black Bay GMT has is the ideal companion.
