First introduced with the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time Ref. 5524, the Patek Philippe pilots’ watches are fully functional timepieces for the modern watch lover. Whether you need to keep track of time zones for international meetings, want to easily switch to local time on your holidays, or simply appreciate Patek Philippe’s exceptional watchmaking, you’ll find an excellent companion in this collection.
Here, we explore the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time Ref. 5524 and a medium version of this design, Ref. 7234. These models are available in rose gold or white gold.
The Ref. 5524 was launched in 2015, featuring a 42mm case and the exclusive dual time zone ‘Travel Time’ system which characterises this collection. The second time zone is displayed via an extra hour hand, which keeps the dial clean and easy to read. Indicators on the dial show whether it’s day or night in each time zone, removing any need for a 24-hour index to cope with large time differences. A sub-dial displays the local date by hand, a stylish alternative to displaying the date in an aperture.
The date and time zone functions are controlled by two pushers. Arranged on the left side of the case opposite the crown, these give the watch a distinctive silhouette that instantly sets it apart. Luminescent applied gold numerals and local time hands ensure readability for overnight flights and darkened hotel rooms.
In 2018, Patek Philippe introduced a medium version of the Ref. 5524, the 37.5mm case Ref. 7234R in rose gold, and in 2020 a white gold version was also introduced to the collection, Ref. 7234G. Regardless of size, all these models are powered by the Caliber 26-330 S C FUS, a self-winding movement which features a power reserve of 35-45 hours and a 21K gold central rotor. The mechanism is displayed through the sapphire crystal case back.
The rose gold models are paired with a brown dial with subtle black gradation towards the circumference. The gradient adds richness to the colour, reminiscent of coffee sipped in Mediterranean sun, or polished mahogany. A calf leather strap in vintage brown continues the warm colour scheme, providing comfort in style.
If you prefer a more restrained look, the white gold case with blue lacquered dial offers an exceptionally versatile aesthetic, wearable by anyone anywhere. It adds class to any outfit, from the poolside to the boardroom.
The Calatrava Travel Time pilots’ watches offer great functionality combined with impeccable aeronautical style. Any model from this collection would be a fantastic choice for a regular traveller, or indeed anyone who appreciates a beautiful timepiece with the functionality to match. Whether for business or pleasure, your travels will be all the more enjoyable with a Patek Philippe pilots’ watch on your wrist.
