When cleaning diamonds, an at-home ultrasonic will work wonders on your diamond jewellery, however, for gemstone pieces, we suggest a gentler, hands-on approach.
Soak your item in lukewarm water, with a drop of washing up liquid and let it rest fo r5-10 minutes. Using a soft head toothbrush (baby’s toothbrushes are ideal), use the soapy water to gently brush and dislodge any debris on and around your stones. Rinse your item under running water to remove any cleaning solution and dry with a paper towel. Please note that emeralds are almost always treated with oil, and we would advise against using cleaning solutions; warm/ running water and a soft brush should suffice. We do not recommend cleaning your opals or pearls at home, please contact our sales team for the correct aftercare.
Additionally, our wonderful staff welcome you to our beautiful showrooms, with a beverage waiting, to assist you in cleaning and caring for your jewellery.
We want you to love and enjoy wearing your jewellery, however, there are some tips we would like to share to keep your jewellery beautiful and safe.
When wearing pearls, make sure to store them in a safe space after taking them off – ie satin pouches. We would also suggest removing any silica moisture pouches from your jewellery box, especially around pearls and emeralds. This will reduce the risk of them drying out and looking their lustre. We would advise all jewellery to be kept safely in jewellery boxes or stands when not being worn.
Occasions we would suggest you remove or not wear your jewellery:
- To sleep in
- At the gym (especially during weight training)
- Washing your hands
- Showering or bathing
- Prior to applying perfumes and colognes
This advice will prolong the sparkle of your jewellery, reduce the risk of skin reactions and keep your jewellery safe and sound.
